Evaluation and Treatment

Choosing to modify your drinking behavior or abstaining altogether is a decision that requires personal fortitude and commitment. The FreedomFromAlcohol Method works best when a motivated individual decides they want to take charge of their life once again. If you have reached a point in your drinking where you are realizing some of the harmful consequences associated with an alcohol problem your decision to seek help can be easier to make.
Since alcoholism is a progressive disease, the earlier you seek treatment the greater your chances of avoiding the destructive spiral into alcoholism. Being inspired to take control of your current situation, seizing the opportunity to improve your life and make it more manageable shows you have strength. This is the kind of courage and motivation shown time and again by hundreds of clients that I have effectively treated with this program. I encourage you to read some of their success stories.
The first phase of The FreedomFromAlcohol Method™ begins with evaluating where you are currently in your drinking situation and discussing how medication and treatment works.
The evaluation phase starts with your initial phone call to me and our private conversation. But most of the work is done in a meeting with me in my office, if you are able to do so, at 12 Library Street, Framingham, MA. This would be the ideal first step, at least for our initial meeting. Follow-up meetings may be comfortably done by phone during the Introductory Treatment Program.
What If I'm Unable to Visit in Person?
If we can't arrange an initial meeting at least once in person then it is important that you contact an available physician who will prescribe the suggested medications that I use in the program. I will be available to review these with your physician if you decide to pursue the Internet Based Remote Coaching Method.
What Do We Discuss in Our First Meeting?
Our preliminary discussions will be about what your alcohol consumption has been like and the patterns that occur in your drinking. Recognizing these patterns will create a gateway to understanding any issues you have that may be causing your excessive drinking and effectively dealing with them. We then discuss important questions concerning your recovery and subsequent goals, such as:
- What would you like to have in your life that is not present now?
- What are your goals, in terms of changing you're drinking and life patterns?
- What is your desired outcome from treatment?
What Medications Are Used?
There are a number of new FDA approved prescription drugs available for people who would like to modify their drinking habits by cutting back or for those looking to abstain from alcohol altogether. These drugs are designed to curb your alcohol cravings and have been proven quite effective. These drugs need to be prescribed by a professional and only after an assessment is made of your condition.
If you prefer to take the self treatment approach there are some over the counter (OTC) remedies that have been used with some success according to research studies and by people who have tried the OTC method of treatment. I would not suggest this method for the acute alcoholic by any means but a place remains for a treatment regimen that offers hope for curtailing ones excessive drinking and improving their overall health. If someone experiences positive results curbing their alcohol dependence while taking OTC's then so much the better.
